Newbie Guide
I figured it was time to get one of these set up - yep, it's a step-by-step guide to getting started on the site for those who aren't quite sure how to get involved in the roleplaying, plan a character etc.[/size]
Step One
So you've stumbled across the site, liked what you've seen and decide to register. If you haven't already, it's a good idea to say a quick hello on the C-Box. The members on here are friendly and will not bite, and will gladly answer any questions you have. So don't be afraid to drop a greeting, or ask for help/clarification on something if you want to.
Step Two
To get involved in the roleplaying, you'll need to create a character. If you wish to create a historical character (e.g. someone who existed in history such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, William Howe etc.) then you can audition for said person in the "Character Auditions" thread. Any important links you will need for help on making a character, as well as quick links to the auditions thread and character template, can be found under the "The Links" sidebar to your left.
Your character can, pretty much, be whoever you want them to be. Obviously, there are some limitations, but it's a free world - we aren't going to yell at you if you want to create a half French half Spanish soldier employed in the Hessian forces who came to America and has decided they want to switch to the Patriot side...and is also a girl. That's entirely up to you. c: If you're unsure if it's allowed or not, ask in the C-Box or PM me (admin) about it. Alternatively, just go ahead with it - if there's something wrong, we'll point it out to you so it can be fixed.
If you need help or inspiration for creating a character, again the C-Box is your friend. It may be worth checking the auditions or character plots to see what sort of characters are available/requested.
Step Three
So, once your character has been created and accepted, you're free to let them loose on the board. If you want to get straight into roleplaying, join an open thread (a thread that can be joined by anyone) or start your own. If you'd rather work up a storyline or plot for a thread with someone in particular, you can create a plotting thread in the "Logs" board. If you're really stuck for getting into rp-ing, feel free to shoot the admin a PM - I'll try and squeeze one of my characters into a thread and work something up. c:
Another good way to get going in roleplaying is to audition for a certain character, such as a historical figure. Chances are there will be another historical figure - or other character - that is associated with them who you can rp with.
Bear in mind that people have lives beyond the site, so you may not receive a plotting response and/or rp reply instantly.
Step Four
Get involved! The best way to really get yourself going on the site is to interact with people. I'm always up for a chat on the C-Box (I live there) and the other members are just as friendly. Any OTMs, games, surveys or competitions are open for ANYONE'S participation - whether you're a veteran of the site or just joined that morning, it wouldn't be up and running if it wasn't open for everyone to get involved with.
Don't be shy about starting your own game or chat thread either - someone'll jump on in and entertain you.
Feel free to suggest improvements to the site as well. If you have a plot idea or something you think would work well, we'd like to know!
Step Five
If you have any questions, or the guide has still left you confused, just ask. Anybody. Seriously. If you've checked the FAQs (quick link available in the "The Links" sidebar) and are still completely lost, someone is bound to know the answer to your query.
Also, if the C-Box isn't viewable to you or won't work, post a thread in the "General" board and let us know. We can also answer any questions you have through the thread there, too. Feel free to also shoot the admin a PM if you have questions.
