“I-um, well, I... I mean, I’m a... I’m a... a, um... a... a, uh, a... a... um, a, uh... Girl.” Adelaide stuttered out.
“I, well... um, my- my real name is Adelaide.” she said, “Not Aleid.” she blushed for some reason and looked down, “But you can call me Alida”
“I dressed up like a, uh, a... man so I could enlist in the army.” she continued, not letting Rhiannon get a word in edgewise.
She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. She looked up at Rhiannon. “Um, sorry for lying to you, I think...” she muttered.

Rhiannon nearly giggled with all the stuttering. She then stopped smiling when she said she was a girl.
"Oh-h? Really now," she stammered, just kind of looking at her.
"Well, hello Alida," she said in a welcoming tone. "It's alright, I won't say a word."
In reality Rhiannon wondered why on earth she'd do that, but it wasn't her place to ask.

Adelaide swallowed. "I, um, I thought that you may think less of me if you knew that I was a woman." she said. "A woman dressing up like a man, at that."
She smiled as Rhiannon seemed to accept her. "I promise not to lie to you again." she said quickly.
"C-can we still be friends? Even though I lied?" she asked hopefully.

"I don't think less of you, I actually commend you, Alida. Honestly, as a woman I am far too scared to be around guns and shooting... I just can't bring myself to kill anyone," she explained.
"You did not lie, you were just protecting yourself," she told her, smiling. Annie really wasn't bothered or offended. Good thing she was so laid back, some may have been upset.
"Of course we're still friends, Alida!"

Adelaide was obviously relived. "I don't particularly like the killing..." she said unsurely. "But it's kill or be killed." she shrugged.
Adelaide became more relaxed in the room, "Well, goodnight, I guess." she smiled slightly as Rhiannon sat down in her own bed.
Adelaide wondered what would happen next. She'd obviously have to go back to the army, she was not looking foreword to getting up so early. Would she never see Rhiannon again? The gentle woman was probably the only person she could consider to be her friend in all of New Englad.
Adelaide pushed those thoughts from her head. SHe had to sleep, fi she didn't, everything would just be more tangled in the morning.
